Do Irish doodles look different from goldendoodles?

So you’ve decided that you want a doodle, but you don’t know which doodle breed is best for you. Should you get an Irishdoodle or a Goldendoodle? We’re here to help you make a more informed decision between these two wonderful breeds!

A Goldendoodle is a cross between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. An Irishdoodle is a cross between a Poodle and an Irish Setter. While both the golden retriever and the Irish Setter are awesome dogs, they do have their differences. As far as looks go, Golden Retrievers tend to have a blocky and heavy set frame, and their hair is thick and full. While the retriever’s colors range from cream to red, they are typically, well, golden! Irish setters look very different in terms of frame, hair, and color. They may not weigh as much as the golden retriever, but they are taller and more slender. Irish Setters also have longer, finer coats. Irish setters come in chestnut, mahogany, and red. With all of this in mind, what do Goldendoodle and Irishdoodle puppies look like?

Goldendoodle puppies tend to have blocky frames with thicker coats. The curl of these coats will depend on whether you choose an F1 or F1b. Check out our blog about the differences between F1 and F1b doodles if you’re unfamiliar with the terms! Depending on the parents, colors can range from white, cream, apricot, red, black, or merle. At Morning Glory Doodles, we have mini, medium, and standard size Goldendoodles. Take a look at our blog about different Doodle sizes to figure out what size is best for you!

Irishdoodle puppies are typically more sleek and slender, with longer legs and finer coats. Colors range from deep red to apricot, with some puppies having white abstract markings! We have F1 and F1b Irishdoodles, and they come in mini, medium, and standard size. While the Irish Doodle may not weigh as much as the Goldendoodle, they’re likely to be taller due to their longer legs.

To sum it up, Goldendoodles are usually blocky, heavy, with thicker coats, and have more range of color. Irish Doodles are more slender, tall, and typically have silky, deep red coats.

What’s the Difference in Personality?

When it comes to personality, Goldendoodles and Irishdoodles are more similar than they are different. Both are crossed with the highly intelligent and easy to train Poodle, and they each make wonderful, loyal, affectionate family pets that you will adore.

Goldendoodles are typically very outgoing. As the saying goes, they never meet a stranger, and we have definitely found this to be true! They are loyal, affectionate and easy to train. They take a joyous and playful approach to life and enjoy outdoor play.

Irish Doodles are happy, affectionate, and eager to please. They enjoy the challenges involved with obedience training and exercise. Like Goldendoodles, they love the outdoors– hiking, swimming, and running, thanks to their athletic Irish Setter parent. They also love to chase butterflies and other insects!
